MINOCQUA – The Lakeland Area Schools receive $55,000 grant to expand mental health resources.    As of February, the district says more than 160 students have used the telehealth and in-person services provided by the school district and district says they are seeing that number consistently growing.  Nationally since the pandemic, cases of anxiety and depression have increased by 25% among teenagers.  The Lakeland Area Consortium districts include North Lakeland Elementary, Lakeland Union High School, Arbor Vitae/Woodruff School, MHLT, and Lac Du Flambeau School District.

UPPER MICHIGAN - A decision that would restore a year-round coyote hunting season has been delayed.  The Michigan Natural Resources Commission decided unanimously to table a vote on the change in hunting season yesterday.  It is unclear when the commission will vote on the coyote season again. People came out in passionate support both for and against the change.

DETROIT (AP) — The Michigan Supreme Court has made sweeping changes to the state’s sentencing law. The court struck down automatic, no-parole prison terms for 19 and 20-year-olds convicted of murder. As a result, hundreds of people will be eligible to return to courts around Michigan for new sentences and an opportunity for freedom. The Supreme Court says mandatory life sentences for people who were 19 and 20 at the time of the crime violate a ban against “cruel or unusual punishment” in the Michigan Constitution.
