IRONWOOD - “Hands Off” rallies took place across the Country Saturday including in Ironwood.  Around 100 people attended the Ironwood event at the Ironwood City Square.  The groups website says the mass mobilization was to send a message to the world that they do not consent to the destruction of our government and our economy for the benefit of Trump and his billionaire allies.  The protest was peaceful with no reports of any incidents.  The group Indivisible along with the Gogebic and Iron County Democrats helped organize the Ironwood event. Similar events were held in Marquette, Houghton, Iron Mountain and Escanaba.  The protests on Saturday occurred nationally in over 1,200 locations across all 50 states.

IRONWOOD - A fundraiser held at the Aurora Club in Ironwood drew a good crowd on Sunday. 273 people attended the H.O.P.E. Animal Shelter Breakfast. Suffolk Eatery provided breakfast for everyone, and there were 50/50 and basket raffles with prizes donated by local businesses. Executive Director Denise Anderman said all proceeds from the event will go towards helping homeless animals in the area. Anderman says the shelter takes in about 500 animals a year and finds them new homes. Local entrepreneur Deb Schwarz will be donating 25% of all her sales of Jordan Essentials products through the 12th to the shelter. Former Director of H.O.P.E. Animal Shelter Randy Kirchhoff was at the breakfast. Both he and Denise Anderman encourages everyone to visit the shelter and perhaps find the perfect four-legged family member.

UPPER MICHIGAN - Hunting and fishing license fees could be on the increase.    Governor Whitmer’s budget for next fiscal year has a proposal to increase revenue from the Department of Natural Resources.  if passed. A hunting and fishing combo license for Michiganders could inflate from $76 to an adjusted fee of $115.  Boating registration fees could also increase for the first time since 1993.  The budget still needs to be passed in both the state house and senate.
