ASHLAND — When Northland College in Ashland closes at the end of May, 112 people will be losing their jobs.  Northland College sent a letter to the Department of Workforce Development (DWD) saying that the college will close May 31 and over 100 people will be out of work. The closure is expected to be permanent, the letter said. Northland College announced the abrupt decision to close in February.  Northland College is an environmental liberal arts college open for over 130 years.

IRONWOOD – Another Scam alert.  The City of Ironwood was made aware that their main phone number, (906) 932-5050, is being spoofed. This means you could receive a call that appears to be coming from the City of Ironwood but it’s not.  The caller may ask you for money or personal information.  Be aware the city will not request sensitive information over the phone and does not accept any payments over the phone for any City services.

UPPER MICHIGAN - The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is holding public, in-person meetings in Ontonagon and Marquette counties to regulate change proposals for the state’s fisheries. Proposals for Lake Gogebic’s Walleye regulation changes will be discussed at a meeting scheduled for Tuesday, the 8th from 4 to 6 pm CDT at the Gogebic-Ontonagon School District Building. The existing standard for Walleye on the largest inland lake in the U.P. is a 15-inch minimum size with a catch limit of five fish. The change would add a protected slot limit, meaning anglers could possess up to five walleye total, measuring between 15 inches and 18 inches and 23 inches or greater; however, anglers could possess only one walleye 23 inches or greater.
