N. WISCONSIN - Late last night Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers declared a state of emergency for the northern part of the state due to damage caused by Sunday’s ice storm. The emergency declaration helps ensure state agencies, local partners, utility companies and emergency management agencies can continue to work together and respond quickly to the damage caused by the recent weather and upcoming storms. As of late Tuesday evening, Wisconsin Public Service said it had restored power to over 140,000 customers, but that some 16,600 customers were still waiting for the lights to go back on. The restoration effort is expected to be one of the largest in Wisconsin Public Service history, with line workers coming from all around the Midwest to help restore power. So far there have been more than 1,600 reports of significant damage caused by ice covered trees and branches that have downed lines and snapped utility poles.
