MICHIGAN - Michigan’s House of Representatives is looking to increase transparency.  The Republican-led chamber adopted a plan to add transparency in the state budget process.  Rep. David Prestin (R-108th State House District) says A lot of these budgetary acts have been done behind closed doors at the last-minute involving people that shouldn’t be receiving these kinds of funds.  Lawmakers say this plan prohibits giving taxpayer money directly to for-profit businesses and Nonprofits that have not operated in the state for at least three years are also now ineligible.  Both Republicans and Democrats say this plan prevents abuse of taxpayer-funded grants that go toward specific projects.  Prestin says soon the public will able be able to login into a website and see the projects that are going on in the state and constituents will be given a 14-day period to either voice support or voice opposition to projects in the state.  Prestin says this will give those in the U.P. more of a voice in Lansing.
