UPPER MICHIGAN - Starting tomorrow, Michigan’s updated laws regarding adolescent passengers will take effect. The two-bill package passed the legislature in 2023 that aligned Michigan law with current recommendations from pediatricians for young passenger safety. The law requires children under 2 to be in rear-facing car seats, children under 5 to be in forward-facing seats, and children under 8 or shorter than 4 feet 9 inches to use a booster seat. The other change is that any child under the age of 13, regardless of size will be required to sit in the back seat of a vehicle if a back seat is present.
