VILAS COUNTY - Concerns voiced by community members over the years have prompted inspections of the Humane Society of Vilas County, but despite those concerns, the shelter has passed state inspections and investigations for the past five years. The only issue found was a damaged wall that could have been a hazard to the animals and the HSVC promptly corrected the issue. In March, a report of the animals in the shelter being left unattended for an extended period of time surfaced, but upon inspection, the Vilas County Sheriff’s Office found no issues. There have been concerns regarding the structure of the board of directors and director and the fact that the public cannot attend board meetings or directly contact board members. The shelter’s website instead directs those with questions to mail the board.
