VILAS COUNTY - At a special meeting of the Vilas County Board of Supervisors, it was decided that the 167 acres of land owned by the county and leased to the Landfill Venture Group in Cloverland will not be sold. The Landfill Venture Group or LVG is a group of 13 towns in Vilas County and the city of Eagle River that own County G Landfill. the meeting was prompted after the Vilas County Board Chairman Jerry Burkett was approached by Arizona-based solid waste company Republic Services that leases the property about purchasing the land. Burkett in turn referred the matter to the county’s corporation counsel. Despite numerous conversations regarding the possible sale, the Board of Supervisors has said it does not intend to sell the landfill.
