ISHPEMING - A man and a woman were arrested Friday in Ishpeming for extorting an Ishpeming resident.  The complainant reported to police that someone called them, telling them they were a federal officer. The suspect told the complainant they would be arrested if they didn’t give them money.  The suspect successfully extorted money from the complainant Wednesday. The suspect then contacted the complainant again Thursday, requesting another large amount of money.  Police arrested one male and one female on Friday in a sting operation.  Police say the suspects are lodged on one count of receiving money under false pretenses in amounts between $20,000 and $50,000. If they’re convicted, the charge carries a maximum sentence of 15 years and/or $15,000, or three times the value of the money or property involved, whichever is greater.
