NORTHERN WISCONSIN / UP - More snow could be moving in by mid-week. Accumulating snow will affect mainly northwest Wisconsin Wednesday. Several inches of snow are possible, with portions of northwest Wisconsin east of Highway 63 seeing a 30 to 70 percent chance for greater than 6 inches of snow from late Tuesday through Wednesday, highest in Price County. In the U.P. the Western U.P. isn't expected to see any snow however the central and Eastern U.P. could see rain, sleet and snow with the potential of several inches of total snow. The snow amounts could change depending on the track of this next storm system.

IRONWOOD - The Gogebic Community College Ironwood XC Snowmobile National Championship races scheduled for this past Saturday were cancelled due to rain.

Gogebic Community College and Cor Powersports were all set to hold the second year of the race, but snowpack had deteriorated sufficiently to make the track unsafe. There were 445 entries ready to race, but with the length of the course, it became impossible to maintain the entire track so riders could run. Cor Powersports Owner Todd Myers said it was disappointing, but working around the weather is just part of job. Myers says he’s working to secure a three-year contract with Mt. Zion’s ski hill management for future race finales.

IRONWOOD - A celebration was held on Saturday for the co-owners of ABR Ski Trails. Angela Santini and Eric Anderson are in the process of transitioning the trails into the Anderson Bluffs and River Trails Foundation.

Santini and Anderson have run the trails for the last 30 years, with Anderson starting the trails with his dad back in 1995 after leaving his engineering career. The work it took to create the 100-kilometer trail system was an undertaking, working with old equipment and technology to create and keep perfectly groomed trails through beautiful scenery. Scrapbooks filled with clippings about ABR were available in the ski shack for folks to see the progress of the trails through the years. Anderson and Santini still plan on volunteering in the ski shack and Anderson says he’ll continue as chief groomer, but the ownership of the land and day to day operations will be the responsibility of the ABR Trails Foundation, which Anderson and Santini started in 2019. Transfer of the land and ownership is due to be completed in April. More information can be found at abrtrails.com.
