HURLEY - The one thousand daffodils planted in front of the Iron County Historical Museum in Hurley have been blooming. The display is part of the Worldwide Daffodil Project, a living Holocaust memorial.  The daffodils were planted last fall by the Iron County Historical Society, the Range Master Gardeners, the Jewish American Society for Historic Preservation, and friends.  The shape and color of the flowers represent the yellow stars Jews were forced to wear during the Holocaust.  Yellow is also the color of remembrance, and daffodils were chosen for their resiliency, reblooming every year.  The goal of the project is to plant 1.5 million daffodils in memory of the 1.5 million Jewish children who perished.  A stone marker was sited in front of the Iron County Historical Museum, where the flowers are a reminder of the loss and a call to action to protect the most vulnerable from hatred, ignorance, and prejudice.
