ONTONAGON COUNTY - The Michigan Department of Transportation started a $6.5 million resurfacing project in Ontonagon County yesterday.  About 5.5 miles of M-26 from US-45 to the M-38 west junction will be resurfaced throughout the summer.  One lane of alternating traffic will be open on M-26 using traffic regulators. Temporary traffic signals will be in place during certain drainage work.  Work includes asphalt milling and resurfacing, culvert wingwall replacement, concrete curb and gutter, drainage, guardrail and pavement markings.  According to a release from MDOT, the project will continue until Monday, Oct. 3.

WESTERN U.P. – Teaching the next generation how to ride the trails of the Western U.P. Safely. There are two seasons in the U.P., ATV and UTV trail season in the summer and snowmobile season in the winter.  Both provide lots of family fun, with drivers of all ages operating vehicles.  Last week, MI-TRALE, the Michigan Trails and Recreation Alliance of Land and the Environment, hosted its 9th annual youth ORV training at Camp Nesbit. 6th-grade students from Ewen Trout Creek School, Ontonagon Area schools, and Watersmeet school all participated in a training program that teaches youth how to ride right and safely travel around the region’s backcountry ORV trails. At the end of the program, students receive a Certified to Ride Safety Certificate.  For more information on MI-Trale, go to mi-trale.org
