IRONWOOD - Spring Clean-Up Days are today and tomorrow in Ironwood.  Ironwood residents can dump unwanted items in the dumpsters behind Ironwood Public Safety today from 8:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. and tomorrow from 8:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. please use the Alfred Wright Blvd entrance for unloading. Items that will not be accepted include brush, car batteries, tires, all paints, petroleum products, heavy metals (i.e. mercury) pesticides, appliances, e-waste (TV’s & Computers) ammunition and explosives. There is a limit of one pick-up load (or the equivalent) per property. Please bring a picture ID with you, as this will be checked for proof of ownership. Rental unit owners will be allowed one load per property. Each resident utilizing this service will be responsible for unloading their own materials from their vehicle to dumpster. NO CURBSIDE SERVICE will be available.

BAYFIELD COUNTY - Chief Deputy Andy Runice of the Bayfield County Sheriff’s Office received a plaque at the Annual Cable Town Meeting in recognition of his brave actions on Halloween night. During a "Trunk or Treat" event, while distributing candy to children, Chief Deputy Runice noticed a vehicle bypassing a barricade and heading towards the crowd. Runice entered his patrol vehicle and intercepted the approaching car, preventing any harm to the attendees.  The driver was an elderly woman suffering from dementia, and was unaware of her actions. Chief Deputy Runice stayed by her side until someone she trusted arrived to take her home.

VILAS COUNTY — Vilas County's summer ATV/UTV trails will be opened as of 8am this morning.  The Vilas County Summer ATV/UTV Trail System consists of 39.5 miles of trails, 12.7 miles of routes, and many more road route miles. All County highways, the lettered highways, are open for ATV/UTV travel except in the Town of Lac du Flambeau.  Numbered highways are not open for use.
