ASHLAND - The company that provided senior meals for hundreds in Ashland and Bayfield counties has announced it will close on May 24th. Chartwells Dining Services operated out of Northland College and provided meals for homebound seniors and at communal dining sites for a number of years, including hosting seniors for lunch on the Northland campus. Bayfield County Human Services Director Elizabeth Skulan said Bayfield County will explore all options for finding a new vendor to handle the food service previously provided by Chartwells, including exploring providing meals through the county’s food service kitchen. Director of the Ashland County Aging Unit, Laura Nagro said they are continuing to look for options. When the college first announced it would close, the county partnered with local businesses to make sure meal services would continue, and it will continue to work with those businesses as well as looking for other more permanent solutions.

WISCONSIN – Today is the start of early voting in Wisconsin two weeks before the April 1 election between Republican-backed Brad Schimel and Democratic-supported Susan Crawford. The winner will determine whether conservative or liberal justices control Wisconsin’s highest court as it faces cases over abortion and reproductive rights, the strength of public sector unions, voting rules and congressional district boundaries. The race has drawn the attention of President Donald Trump’s adviser Elon Musk and is seen as a litmus test early in Trump’s Republican presidency.
