LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Democratic Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson is running for governor of the all-important swing state. The race has quickly become a barometer of how the Democratic party moves forward after losses in the 2024 election. Now in her second term, Benson served as the top elections officer in the state during the 2020 and 2024 elections. She was a staunch defender of the former when Donald Trump and his supporters questioned Joe Biden's win. Benson is the first big-name Democrat to launch a bid. Detroit Mayor and longtime Democrat Mike Duggan announced he's running for governor as an independent candidate.
