ASHLAND – More Witness Testimony as the Monkelien Murder Trial Continues in Ashland. The jury in the double-murder trial of Ashland businessman Nathan Monkelien heard testimony from a bartender who worked near the site of the double shooting. Donald Tourtillot said Monkelien had had three drinks the night of the shooting at the Stagecoach Bar and Grill and had gotten into an altercation with someone else before the shooting. Tourtillot said the dust-up was with an unknown individual, he separated the two then walked Monkelien back into the bar, sat with him and tried to calm him. Later, he testified that Monkelien left the bar, and that’s when he heard loud bangs from outside as he was closing the bar. He said he learned of the shooting later and was interviewed by law enforcement.
