BAYFIELD - Bayfield County is Being Sued by the Owner of Animals Seized for Mistreatment. In June, 16 horses, three of which were with foal, were seized after the Bayfield County Sheriff’s office and the county’s humane officer inspected 72-year-old Kim Kingley’s property and determined that the animals were being mistreated. Unbridled Hope Equine Assisted Learning Center in Bayfield helped remove the horses. The Center’s Sonia Reyes-Buffalo said the animals were being kept in extremely poor conditions. Kingsley was told his animals would be returned at some point and he continued to inquire about them. Towards the end of July the county filed a criminal complaint against Kingsley for attacking a process server and trying to prevent them from leaving his property. Kingsley was also informed that his horse would not be returned. In an affidavit, Kingsley has stated he is not aware of any court order that states that his animals would not be returned to him. He also says the county has refused to allow his veterinarian to see the animals and has no idea where they are being held.
