VILAS COUNTY - Boulder Junction may soon be a bit more like Canada.

A couple of Park Board members are helping to create the first rural ice-skating ribbon in Wisconsin. Urban areas have ice skating ribbons, and Canada has a few, so Henry Royer and Steve Weber say the trails are an undiscovered gem for the area. Royer’s wife received a video of a trail in Canada. In fact, folks at Arrowhead Provincial Park in Ontario have been assisting the two and now the town with advice on how they create and maintain the trails there. The ribbon will be part of the town’s Winter Park, and with the help of town government, volunteers, the Boulder Junction Community Foundation and the Wild Ice-Skating Explorers group, prep work on the trails started early this year. Response to The Glide, as the trail is called, has been enthusiastic. And with the recent cold weather, folks may be skating shortly before Christmas. More information can be found at boulderatplay.com/the glide.
