LANSING - The Michigan Senate passed a bill late last night that would reform the paid sick time act shortly before a Friday deadline. The bipartisan legislation would require larger businesses to provide a minimum of 72 hours of earned sick time to full-time employees. For small businesses with 10 or fewer employees, they would be required to provide 40 hours of earned sick time to full-time employees. The Michigan House of Representatives is expected to act on the bill soon. The passage of the earned sick time changes come hours after the Senate sent the changes to the tipped wage reform bill to the Governor’s desk as well. The Michigan Senate also voted to give the tipped wage bill immediate effect.
