LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist II is running to become the state's next Democratic governor. Gilchrist announced yesterday his Democratic bid to succeed term-limited Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. Gilchrist became Michigan's first Black lieutenant governor in 2019 and is in his second-term. The winner will face the tough challenge of competing against independent gubernatorial candidate Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan and the Republican primary winner.
