GOGEBIC COUNTY - The State of Michigan has announced that 32 projects will share $3.6 million in funding through a grant from the Michigan Invasive Species Program. The program, initiated by the Michigan departments of Agriculture and Rural Development; Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy; and Natural Resources aims to prevent the introduction of new invasive species, strengthen early detection and response to invasive species, limit the spread of recently confirmed invasive species and manage and control widespread established outbreaks. The Iron Baraga Conservation District which serves Iron, Gogebic and Ontonagon Counties will receive $70,000 for its programs and Michigan Tech University will also receive $70,000 for its work across, Baraga, Houghton and Keweenaw Counties.
