L’ANSE - Nearly 100 Baraga County community leaders got to meet leaders of a Mining Company at an open house in L’Anse yesterday.  Talon, a mineral exploration and development company, is beginning its search for high-grade nickel and other minerals in the U.P. The company’s main project is the Tamarack Nickel Project in Minnesota.  The company is operating out of a ‘core shed’ in L’Anse. It has acquired a land package of 400,000 acres, originally owned by the Ford Motor Company, to search for potential nickel. The company says these materials would be used in domestic supply chains.  The company says it’s still too soon to know if any discovery could lead to the creation of a mining operation in Baraga County.
