KENTON- The USDA Forest Service will complete the removal of the lower dam on the east branch of the Ontonagon River, located southwest of Sidnaw this summer.  The project aims to restore 8 miles of upstream habitat and increase overall fish habitat connection between Lake Superior and the headwaters of the east branch, the longest free-flowing branch of the Ontonagon River.  The dam was constructed in 1963 and was nearing the end of its expected lifespan. Blue Line Solutions, an Upper Peninsula company, is the contractor on the project.  Work is expected to start in July.
