VILAS COUNTY - At the last meeting of the Vilas County Board, one of the items on the agenda was the county owned fairgrounds in Eagle River. The fair board and the county are in the final year of a three-year lease for the land used for the fair. The little used seven acres currently isn’t earning revenue for the county, and it was suggested that at least the 900 or so feet of Riverside Park that is used be put on the public tax rolls. A search of county records for the past 10 years shows that the fair board hasn’t paid the $1 a year agreed to in the lease agreement. Council member Jerry Burkett said the Vilas County board is responsible for good use of Vilas County lands and that should be a meeting of the minds when comes to the use of that property.
