ONTONAGON - An Ontonagon man pled guilty on charges of embezzlement and tax fraud.  Richard Filbey of Ontonagon is charged with embezzlement from a vulnerable adult of $100,000 or more and one count of tax fraud for embezzling money from an elderly woman while acting as her power of attorney.  Attorney General Dana Nessel says Filbey agreed to more than $280,000 in restitution.  In 2018, Filbey began acting as power of attorney for the 86-year-old victim. During that time Filbey caused her to surrender two of her annuities totaling more than $280,000.  Nessel says Filbey used the money for his own enrichment and did not report it as income on his tax returns.  His sentencing date is set for Oct. 30.
