IRONWOOD - The city of Ironwood will begin flushing water mains Sunday evening April 13, 2025. Area 1 will be flushed during the overnight hours which includes areas North of US-2 from Lake Street east to Roosevelt Street in the city. Water Main flushing may lead to discolored water during or immediately following the flushing. Bottled water is available at the Ironwood Public Safety Department for City of Ironwood residents. Water main flushing will take place during the overnight hours in various parts of the city though all next week.

VILAS COUNTY - At his appearance in court for a preliminary hearing, 56-year-old James Johnson of St. Germain waived his right to that hearing in Vilas County Court. Johnson is accused of stabbing his 61-year-old sister, Kelly, to death in a family dispute in March in Cloverland. The Vilas County judge he stood before found there is enough to move forward with a trial. Johnson’s arraignment, where he’ll enter his plea, is scheduled for the 21st. Johnson continues to be held on a $1 million cash bond.

ASHLAND - Xcel Energy has launched a live webcam offering the unique opportunity of observing peregrine falcons as they nest and raise their chicks on the shores of Lake Superior atop the Bay Front Power Plant in Ashland. Three of the birds have already arrived and have set up house, including “Scottie” from the U.P., returning to the nesting site for the last two years. The camera is part of Xcel’s commitment to environmental education and is one of several the company has installed throughout its multi-state service area.
