BAYFIELD - Bayfield County is moving ahead with plans to improve rural ambulance coverage after more than 100 emergency calls last year went unanswered by the nearest EMS agency. The Ashland Daily Press reports that county officials are reviewing proposals for a full-time backup ambulance service to be used when local crews can’t respond. The proposals are due today, with interviews expected in early July. Public forums will follow before a recommendation goes to the County Board. Officials hope to approve a plan in time for the budget process and have the new service operating by January 1.
