UPPER MICHIGAN - Deer hunting participation is up compared to last year in Michigan.  As of yesterday, Michigan Department of Natural Resources says the sales of hunting licenses in the state are up 1.5 % compared to last year.  The U.P. is also seeing an increase in harvest numbers.  The hunting success rate in the Upper Peninsula is up right now by about 7% over last year. The warmer weather is a factor, however, it’s still early in the season and numbers could change as deer season continues.  The DNR has been working to introduce the sport of deer hunting to more people after seeing declines over the last several years nationally.
