LAC DU FLAMBEAU - Long time Lac du Flambeau resident, business owner and Fire Chief Chris Mayer died suddenly on Thursday. The Lakeland Times reports that besides owning Crickets Bar, Mayer also served on the Vilas County board from 2004 to 2014 and the Lac du Flambeau town board from 2015-2021. He was a member of the Lac du Flambeau volunteer fire department and became interim chief succeeding Tom Wegner and was then appointed permanently to chief in the fall of last year. Town Chairman Matt Gaulke said Chris Mayer volunteered whenever needed and his passing is a tremendous loss to the community. Bolger Funeral Home has the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Chris Mayers name to the Lac du Flambeau Fire Department.
