LANSING – The Deadline to Participate in Kroger Opioid Settlement Looms

Michigan governments are slated to receive almost $42 million over 11 years from a $1.2 billion national opioid settlement with Kroger after allegations that the company contributed to the epidemic. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel is encouraging municipalities to make a decision soon, as the deadline for local governments and counties to register to receive those funds by August 12th. Once all eligible local units of government in the state are registered, the agreement should become effective in the fall. A.G. Nessel, says while the settlement cannot erase the profound impact the opioid crisis continues to have on the state, the settlement does represent a significant step toward holding companies accountable for the suffering they have caused.
